When is the right time to send out your save the date invitations? The rule of thumb is to send out the save the date invitations as soon as you have your venue held. That is the time that you want to make sure that your guests don’t make any plans to go out of town or even go to another wedding.

To make sure that everyone attends your wedding who you want to be there, make sure you send your save the date invitations as soon as the reservations for the venue are settled. These invitations are known to be sent out anywhere from a year to five months ahead of the wedding. Don’t think that it is too early to send out the invitations if the venue is more than a year away. If the location is booked, that is reason to tell people to save the date.

The invitations don’t necessarily have to be as fluid as you would like your real invitations to be. Also, since chances are that you haven’t yet begun to plan the wedding, it is not important for these invitations to match the theme of the wedding. Really, the only thing you should be concerned with at this point is making sure that people save the date before making other plans.

It would be very sad for the bride if many of her guests already stimulated plans for either a vacation or even another wedding party. Play it safe and send those invitations out as soon as you know that the date is set. You will be grateful that you did when all of your guests show up at your wedding and you can get married in front of exactly the people you planned to be there.
